Sovras

Description

Sovras, or Sovra-Class Entities (SCEs), are sovereign corporate nation-states. Rather than serving a citizen constituency, Sovras serve their shareholders and the interests of their boards. Although it's technically possible for a smaller Sovra to exist, Sovras are usually sprawlingly massive -- spanning multiple colonies and territories, both planetside and in space. "Sovra" is exclusively used to refer to corporations hailing from Earth, although similar systems exist in other space-faring cultures.

Sovras were a byproduct of the era following the Great Remapping, a moment in zoanthropic human history when the denizens of Earth were keenly interested in restoring the "glory" of human culture prior to hybridization. This included the near deification of capital and the world leaders who accrued the most of it, with the prevailing belief being that these trillionaires had heroically done more to prevent the planet's gruesome fate than traditionally elected politicians. While a few non-corporate governments were able to rise out of the rubble, they were and are no match for the Sovras -- who continue to have extreme sway over Earth commerce and culture.

Sovras vary in structure depending on the individual corporation's needs, but typically have a hierarchy of executives paired with a governing board (with seats filled by majority shareholders). Citizens tend to either work directly for the Sovra or for approved partner organizations, and are generally not allowed to move between Sovras without a change of citizenship.
